Monthly street cleanup Sept. 17

The Galt Beautification Committee and Youth Commission host a regular street cleanup on the Saturday after the third Thursday of the month. The next cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 17 at 8 a.m. Check the city of Galt Facebook page as the day approaches for the meeting location.

Bells Across America on Sept. 17

The Rio Cosumnes chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution invites Galt residents to recognize Constitution Week (Sept. 17-23) and mark the 235th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, which is commemorated annually by Bells Across America. On Sept. 17, 1776, bells were used to call people together to hear the first public reading of the new Constitution. All residents are invited to ring their bells in unison at 1 p.m. PDT to coincide across the country with the bell ringing at 4 p.m. in Philadelphia.

There will be a free bell-ringing event, 12:30-1:30 p.m., at the Rhoads schoolhouse at Elk Grove Regional Park. Participants are invited to bring their own bell. For more information, email darmooney@gmail.com.

RiverCity Church grand opening Sept. 18

RiverCity Church Galt, the local campus of RiverCity Church, will host a grand opening celebration on Sept. 18. The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a dedication service, followed by a barbecue, live music and kids activities at 6 p.m. RiverCity Church Galt is located at 200 New Hope Road. GAHS Sip & Snack Sept. 24

The Galt Area Historical Society will host its 11th annual Sip & Snack at the MAC fundraiser on Sept. 24. The event will run 6-10 p.m. at the McFarland Living History Ranch, and it will feature samples from local wineries, breweries, restaurants and caterers. Tastings will continue through 9 p.m., and the band Phil ‘n da Pinots will provide live music. There will also be a raffle. Proceeds will fund restoration and preservation of the history of Galt and the surrounding area.

Admission costs $40 per person in advance and $50 at the door. Tickets are available on eventbrite.com, or at L’Chayim or Barsetti Vineyards on Fourth Street. McFarland Living History Ranch is located at 8899 Orr Road.

Bingo fundraiser for Galt teen Sept. 25

Galt Lions Club is sponsoring a bingo fundraiser on Sept. 25 at Back Alley Brewery to benefit a local youth. Westin Haven is a senior at Liberty Ranch High School who is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for a brain tumor known as germinoma. The proceeds from the fundraiser will help cover medical bills and unforeseen costs.

Last Saturday Market of year Oct. 1

The city of Galt is hosting the final planned edition of the Saturday Market on Oct. 1. The event will take place on the Fourth Street Promenade and last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature a “Harvest Shopping Experience,” and vendors will offer food, produce, fresh flowers, and arts and crafts. Memorial golf tourney seeks players for Oct. 8

An area scholarship organization is seeking entrants for the 13th annual Eric Leeworthy Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament on Oct. 8. Eric Leeworthy, a 2007 Galt High School graduate, died in a car crash in 2008. Because of Leeworthy’s accomplishments in golf and out of a desire to repay the community’s kindness, his family started the scholarship foundation. It has given 67 high school graduates a total of $52,650 since its inception.

The tournament will happen Oct. 8 at Castle Oaks Golf Course in Ione, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. It will be a four-person scramble, costing $100 per player. Golf fundraiser for youth baseball Oct. 21

American Made Baseball will host a golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 21 to support its 10U baseball team. The tournament will take place at Oakmoore Golf Course, with check-in at 9:30 a.m., the shotgun start at 11 a.m., and a raffle at 4:30 p.m.

Signups cost $150 per player, or $550 for a group of four. The price includes breakfast and lunch; individual signup comes with one raffle ticket and one golf cart, and the foursome signup comes with two raffle tickets per person and two golf carts.
