Christmas tree pickup Jan. 8
In cooperation with Cal-Waste, members of Boy Scout Troop 238 will hold their annual Christmas tree pickup service on Saturday, Jan. 8 from 8 a.m. to noon. Please have your tree out by 6 a.m.
Due to COVID-19, no direct contact will be made at the time of pickup. Donations to Troop 238 can be mailed to 10849 Arno Road, Galt, CA 95632. This service is a major fundraiser for local scout troops.
Please place your tree, free of decorations, on the curb in front of your home, and the boys will pick it up for disposal.
Youth Commission cleanup Jan. 15
The Galt Youth Commission will hold a street cleanup along Lincoln Way on Jan. 15. The pickup, which is open to members of the public, will begin at 9 a.m. at SMUD Park, 720 A Street.
Wine, Beer & Food event Feb. 4
In conjunction with the city of Galt’s Winter Bird Festival, the Galt District Chamber of Commerce invites adult guests to enjoy an evening of wine, beer and tasty bites at the fourth annual Wine, Beer & Food event Friday, Feb. 4 from 6-9 p.m. at the Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive. Tickets are $40 per person before Jan. 21, or $50 thereafter. VIP tables, with company logo, for eight guests are available for $500 and include a beer, wine and dessert flight for each guest, as well as a personal table runner. Winter Bird Festival
The 15th annual Galt Winter Bird Festival is planned for Saturday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Tundra Swan as the featured bird.
This celebration of birds has free admission and children’s activities all day; plus educational vendors, a live wild animal presentation, photography exhibit, and youth art contest.
New this year will be a Bird Photography Exhibit, and Virtual Experiences with artist John Muir Laws.
Tours include a “Behind Locked Gates” tour at Cosumnes River Preserve; plus Tall Forest with Dr. John Trochet, Delta Birding with Chris Conard, Staten Island Sunset with Emily Wells, the Cal Waste Recovery Systems Materials Tour; Guided Photography Walk at Cosumnes River Preserve, and Tracks and Scat Walk at Cosumnes River Preserve.
Presentations will be made by Conservation Ambassador Gabriel Kerschner, Leesa Klotz from Cal-Waste, Kelli Moulden with Hawks, Honkers and Hoots, Corky Quirk with Going Batty, and Keynote Speaker John Ehrenfeld.

Firefighter foundation crab feed Feb. 5
The Cosumnes Firefighters Community Support Foundation will hold a crab feed on Feb. 5 at the Elk Grove SES Hall. The fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. with a no-host bar; dinner will follow at 7 p.m.
The SES Hall is located at 10427 East Stockton Blvd. in Elk Grove. Tickets are $60 per person; availability is reduced to allow social distancing.
