Groundwater workshops on Feb. 22, March 4

Cosumnes Groundwater Authority will hold two workshops in coming weeks to update the community on its work to implement sustainable management of Cosumnes Subbasin groundwater. The first workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 22, 5-7 p.m., at the Herald Fire Station, 12746 Ivie Road, Herald. The second workshop will be on Saturday, March 4, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Wilton Community Center, 9717 Colony Road, Wilton. Fatima society to hold Whist Card Party Feb. 26

The Our Lady of Fatima Society of Thornton is hosting its annual Whist Card Party on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Thornton Community Hall, 26675 N. Sacramento Blvd. in Thornton. The cost to play is $5 per person. There will be many good prizes for the players, and refreshments will be served. The society will also sell Portuguese sweet bread at $15 per loaf and Portuguese doughnuts (filozes) at $15 per dozen after each Mass on Sunday. Free short film screening on Feb. 28

The public is invited to Liberty Ranch High School on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 6 p.m., for a free screening of a short film about recovery from mental illness. Disability Rights California (DRC), Galt Sunrise Rotary and the high school district’s Transition Partnership Program are partnering to present the 15-minute comedy-drama, titled “Earth to Alice.” The event will feature an introduction and Q&A by writer, performer and director Alice McCullough, a DRC poet-in-residence visiting from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Liberty Ranch High School is located at 12945 Marengo Road. The screening will be held in the library.

Corned beef and cabbage dinner March 11

The Alta Mesa Gun Club invites everyone to get into the Irish spirit and join its annual corned beef and cabbage dinner Saturday, March 11. There will be multiple raffle prizes. Social hour is at 5 p.m., and dinner is at 6 p.m. The clubhouse is located at 10100 Reigl Road, Wilton. GTC book club starts March 22

Galt Teen Center is launching a twice-monthly book club. Starting March 22, the club will meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, 5:30-7 p.m., at the Galt Teen Center (550 C Street). The first book is “Quest for Camelot,” a book by Liberty Ranch High School teacher Anngela Schroeder. The event is open to 20 participants, ages 13 through 19.
