Mrs. E. Denton was elected chairman of the Alta Mesa Farm Home department at a regular meeting held this week. Mrs. E.E. Monseth was elected vice chairman and Mrs. Stanley Jenkins secretary.

Mrs. Helen Grimes recently returned from a two-week visit with her husband, Pfc James Grimes, who is stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Mrs. Grimes is the former Miss Helen Mollring.

June 27, 1952

Eight youngsters were graduated this spring from the Herald Grammar School, the largest class in the school for the past several years. Graduates were Alvin Schmierer, Norman Rouppet, Mary Ann Hollingsworth, Doris Thut, Ella Sharp, John Johnson, Robert Tipling and Marvin Hedgecock. Mrs. Grace Andruss and Mrs. Allen Stouffer will again teach at the school during the coming term.

The 14th birthday of Miss Lois Schauer was celebrated in her home on C Street Monday afternoon. Those present were Charlene Hayenga, Joyce Bachman, Avalon Mansur, Linda Bellie, Jerry Wahl, Penny Hepper, Donna Pearson, Darlene and Dennis Anderson, Meladee Spiess, Mary Louise Waters, Ruth and Pat Scott and Milo Schauer.

June 28, 1962

The annual summer reading program at the Galt library has proved successful beyond librarian Mrs. Marie Olson’s expectations. Each year, a “sugar plum” tree in the library sprouts a piece of candy for each book a child completes. At the end of the summer, the candy is distributed to readers.

But this year, the tree became loaded with “goodies” almost immediately, and Mrs. Olson had to call a special harvest on Monday.

Miss Carolyn Goldsmith, Galt High School graduate and District 4 Dairy Princess was selected as second alternate before an overflow crowd of 1,200 persons at the annual coronation pageant of the California Dairy Princess at Fresno Memorial Auditorium Saturday night.

June 29, 1972

Thanks to the efforts of Martinus Vandenburg of Kost Road and his four sons, Martin, Victor, Jay and Joey, a pile of refuse left outside the Galt Cemetery on Joy Road has been cleaned. While actions such as the Vandenburgs’ may never be enough to keep up with the litterers, their demonstration of concern shows a praiseworthy intent.

William Davis Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed of Galt, was graduated from the College of Engineering at Northrop Institute of Technology in Inglewood June 15. He received the Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. He is a 1967 graduate of Galt High School.

June 24, 1982

Roy and Laurie Masdonati of Thornton are the proud parents of a baby girl, born June 12, at Methodist Hospital. Named Tawna Nicole, she weighed 3 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 16 inches long.

Betty Jean Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Taylor of Galt, and Jerry Dean Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith, also of Galt, became husband and wife when they recited nuptial vows June 19 at the First Baptist Church in Herald. Bob Meacham of Herald performed the four o’clock ceremony.
