More than 60 family and friends celebrated the 100th birthday of WWII veteran Carl Champ on Saturday, Oct. 19. Champ’s daughter Mary and her husband Jim Underhill hosted the party.

Guests came from far and wide, with family traveling from as far away as Arizona, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington state. Guests included Champ’s two daughters, Mary and Phyllis, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and wife Phylis of 21 years. Those attending the event shared stories, pictures, food and fun.

Champ’s great-grandson Taylor also attended the celebration. Following in his great-grandfather’s footsteps, Taylor enlisted in the California National Guard and will soon to be deployed. Carl was WWII Navy and served in the South Pacific.

“We are proud of their service,” Mary Underhill said.

Champ was featured in a past Galt Herald story documenting his Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Visit to read the story.
