The Galt Market and the San Joaquin Certified Farmers Market will sponsor an evening Farmers Market each Friday evening beginning June 5 through Sept. 25. The market will feature certified produce, fresh flowers and food vendors. Produce vendors will accept EBT and Market Match Purchases options. CDC guidelines for social distancing will be followed at each event. The event is open to the public and is free to enter. This community event promotes healthy eating, supports buying local, and strengthens community partnerships.
Community ‘parade’ to celebrate 2020 graduating class
Galt Joint Union High School District is asking the community to help celebrate this year’s graduating class by participating in a parade and by decorating their own yards. The community is encouraged to decorate their yards with congratulatory messages for the 2020 graduates.
On Tuesday, June 2, the community is encouraged to drive around Acampo, Galt, Herald, Thornton and Wilton to wave at the district’s graduates who will be in their front yards waving at passing cars. Community members can make signs, have balloons, toss confetti, anything that would show the kids you are proud of their accomplishments.
The district will soon release a map of areas where graduates will be.
The city of Galt will be accepting applications for organizations that wish to sell fireworks on city property. Applications for fireworks permits are available in the City Clerk’s Office, 380 Civic Drive, or the city’s website, www.ca.galt.ca.us. All applications and required attachments must be completed and received by the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28.
Applicants must be a community-based, resident 501(c) (3), (4), (6) or (7) nonprofit organization promoting and providing services to residents and/or businesses.
The lottery will be held the first Monday of June in the City Clerk’s office and will determine the rank order for placement at the bottom of the master list for those eligible nonprofit organizations not already included in the master list.
Senior Resource Center temporary closure
In the interest of the health of volunteers and the public that comes to visit, the Galt Senior Resource Center (GSRC) at the Chabolla Center will be closed, effective until further notice. The center will reopen when mandates are lifted.

AA 24-hour hotline

Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings
Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings is an anonymous program for friends and family members who are dealing with drug addiction. Local meetings are held weekly on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Galt United Methodist Church, 571 C Street in Galt.
Real Life Church offers help for seniors
Volunteers at Real Life Church are willing and able to take on shopping responsibilities for seniors in the community who may not be able to venture out on their own. The volunteers will pick up the shopping list and funds and deliver the needed items back to the home. If you are in need of a shopping trip, contact Ashley at 310-709-4078.
Sunshine Closet donation sites
Sunshine Closet is a food closet that helps provide for local residents. Collections of canned food and dry good, nonperishable items, are received at United Methodist Church, 471 C Street in Galt, call to make an appointment for donations, 209-745-4133
The food closet is open on the second Thursday of each month from 8-10 a.m., and on the fourth Thursday from 8-9 a.m., at the United Methodist Church.
In order to continue helping the community, L’Chayim of Galt needs volunteers. If you can fold, measure, sort, count, cut, tag, sew, knit, crochet, visit, drink coffee or would just like to get out of the house a few hours a week, then this women’s drop-in center would love to see you.
