Annual cemetery cleaning May 16
Galt Cemetery staff will be removing all flowers and other honorarium from gravesites beginning Wednesday, May 15 through Wednesday, May 22.
If there are items of value or keepsakes, families should remove them before that date and take them home.
Families will be able to place flowers again on May 23; anything placed before that date will be removed.
This annual cleaning precedes the Memorial Day celebration.
Applications for firework booths now available
The city of Galt will be accepting applications for organizations that wish to sell fireworks on city property. Applications for fireworks permits are available in the City Clerk’s Office, 380 Civic Drive, City’s website, www.ca.galt.ca.us or email firstname.lastname@example.org. All applications and required attachments must be completed and received by the City Clerk’s Office no later than 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 30.
Applicants must be a community-based, resident 501(c) (3), (4), (6) or (7) nonprofit organization promoting and providing services to residents and/or businesses.
The lottery will be held the first Monday of June in the City Clerk’s office and will determine the rank order for placement at the bottom of the master list for those eligible nonprofit organizations not already included in the master list.
CSD launches free life jacket loan program
The weather is starting to get warmer so, naturally, families are starting to plan for trips to lakes and rivers. In light of up these upcoming activities, Cosumnes Services District (CSD) has launched a free life jacket loan program. The program is to provide life jackets to adults and children to keep them safe. Customers can borrow life jackets up to a week at a time.
Several local fire departments in the valley are participating in the program, including Cosumnes Fire Department station 45 here in Galt at 229 Fifth Street. Other participating fire departments are Folsom, Sac Metro, Roseville, Sacramento Fire and West Sacramento Fire.

Weekday senior lunches
Meals on Wheels, in coordination with the city of Galt, offers free lunches Monday through Friday for seniors 60 years and over at the Chabolla Community Center, 600 Chabolla Avenue. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.; however, doors open at 9 a.m. for coffee and visiting with friends. Meals are free; however, donations are welcome. For questions, call Crystal Pruitt at 209-745-7332.
For those unable to attend lunch at the Chabolla Center, meals can be delivered to your home. For home delivery, call the Asian Community Center at 916-444-9533.
Volunteers needed to deliver meals
The Asian Community Center (ACC) is in need of volunteer drivers to help with its Meals on Wheels program. If you would like to help enrich a senior’s life and have time to volunteer, contact the ACC at 916-444-9533.
Community music sessions
Musicians, fans and members of the community are invited to attend “jam sessions” at First Baptist Church on the corner of A Street and Palin Avenue in Galt on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Musicians from all genres and all ages are invited to participate, and those who wish to just listen to their fellow neighbors are welcome to attend. The Senior Club in Galt welcomes seniors 55+ to join the club, which meets at the Chabolla Community Center, located at 600 Chabolla Ave., in Galt. Member business meetings are the first Monday of every month at 1 p.m. Bingo is held Mondays from 2-4 p.m., and Thursdays from 12:45-2:45 p.m. Fun Days and Potlucks are held the second and third Mondays at 12:30 p.m. Game Days are every Friday from 1-3 p.m., with many games offered. Various other events are held throughout the year. Super Snazzy Sidewalk Sale
A super snazzy sidewalk sale will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the L’Chayim of Galt Women’s Center on Fourth Street, between D and E streets, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Diamond Dancers Square Dance Club

Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings
Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings is an anonymous program for friends and family members who are dealing with drug addiction. Local meetings are held weekly on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Galt United Methodist Church, 571 C Street in Galt.
Sunshine Closet donation sites
Sunshine Closet is a food and clothing closet that helps provide for local residents. Collections of canned food and dry good items, as well as gently used and new clothing, are received at Horizon Community Church, 446 Fairway Drive in Galt on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (209-745-0700) and at United Methodist Church, 471 C Street in Galt on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon (209-200-2628).
The clothes closet is open on the second Thursday from 9:30-11 a.m., and is located on the Fairsite campus, 902 Caroline Avenue in Galt, in the last portable classroom off the back parking lot.
The food closet is open on the second Thursday of each month from 8-10 a.m., and on the fourth Thursday from 8-9 a.m., at the United Methodist Church.
In order to continue helping the community, L’Chayim of Galt needs volunteers. If you can fold, measure, sort, count, cut, tag, sew, knit, crochet, visit, drink coffee or would just like to get out of the house a few hours a week, then this women’s drop-in center would love to see you.

L’Chayim Boutique and Gift Shop
L’Chayim of Galt helps make rag quilts for the needy in our community. Kits are available for home seamstresses to complete on their own time, or teachers are available Wednesdays to help with the quilts and have knowledge of rag quilt construction. Machines are available to use at L’Chayim.
L’Chayim received a wonderful donation of flannel, child-themed prints and other prints at affordable prices. A limited supply of corduroy and upholstery fabric will be $1 a yard.

GHS all class reunion Oct. 12
The Galt High Alumni Association (GHAA) annual All-Class Alumni Reunion is scheduled for the second Saturday in October 2019, on Oct. 12, at the Littleton Center at 3:30 p.m. Class of 1969 is celebrating its 50th reunion.
