Fall Family Food Drive entire month of September
Hunger is a very real issue in every community. Neighborhoods and businesses can be a part of the solution by partnering with local food banks to get assistance to those in greatest need.
Please consider making a food or cash donation through September where your donation will stay here to food local families. Drop-off locations are Save Mart and Banner Bank. A shopping list of high-demand items includes peanut butter & jelly, cereal & cereal grain bars, canned fruit & individual fruit packs, canned vegetables & beans, canned chicken or tuna, soup, stews & chili, rice & pasta, pasta sauce, boxed crackers.
Teen Center design workshop
Members of the Galt Teen Center are hosting a design workshop and have invited the community to share its ideas and thoughts about the teen center. As an essential part of the Galt community, your voice is important as the workshop is designed to serve all teens of Galt. Annette Kunze will lead the workshop in partnership with Galt Teen Center team members. The workshop will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 23 at the Chabolla Community Center, 600 Chabolla Avenue in Galt.
GriefShare provides help and encouragement after the death of a family member or friend. A weekly grief support group is planned for area family members and runs for 13 weeks at a cost of $15, which includes a workbook.

GHS alumni all-class reunion Oct. 12
The Galt High Alumni Association’s 29th annual All-Class Reunion is happening Saturday, Oct. 12 from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Littleton Center in Galt. The reunion features classmates gathering to visit and get reacquainted. The class of 1969 is celebrating their 50th, the class of 1959 is celebrating their 60th, and the class of 1964 is celebrating their 55th reunion. Other classes will be celebrating their 10, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 70th-year reunions.
There will be a tri-tip and teriyaki chicken buffet by Johnson’s Catering, with DJ music. Reunion and buffet are $40 per guest. We encourage alumni interested in sharing a table to get your friends and families to register together. Classmates registered on the website www.galthighalumni.com will receive the reunion reservation information via email, and the reunion reservation form and information will also be posted on the website and on Facebook.
Galt Senior Resource Center
The Galt Senior Resource Center is now open. Regular business hours are 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday (excluding holidays). The resource center is located at the Chabolla Community Center, 610 Chabolla Avenue. For information, call 745-7332 during regular business hours or leave a message for a return call.
AA 24-hour hotline
For those who would like information on meeting times and locations or need help with an alcohol related problem, please call the local Alcoholics Anonymous 24-hour hotline at 209-745-1525.

Weekday senior lunches
Meals on Wheels, in coordination with the city of Galt, offers free lunches Monday through Friday for seniors 60 years and over at the Chabolla Community Center, 600 Chabolla Avenue. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.; however, doors open at 9 a.m. for coffee and visiting with friends. Meals are free; however, donations are welcome. For questions, call Crystal Pruitt at 209-745-7332.
For those unable to attend lunch at the Chabolla Center, meals can be delivered to your home. For home delivery, call the Asian Community Center at 916-444-9533.
The Commission on Aging is looking for more volunteers to staff the Galt Senior Resource Center, located at the Chabolla Community Center, 600 Chabolla Avenue. Center hours are Tuesday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., excluding holidays.
Volunteers who are willing to provide information over the phone, are able to operate a computer and answer questions from seniors who may stop by or call in. Volunteers will be trained and will have the ability to contact members of the commission if questions arise.

Volunteers needed to deliver meals
The Asian Community Center (ACC) is in need of volunteer drivers to help with its Meals on Wheels program. If you would like to help enrich a senior’s life and have time to volunteer, contact the ACC at 916-444-9533.
Community music sessions
Musicians, fans and members of the community are invited to attend “jam sessions” at First Baptist Church on the corner of A Street and Palin Avenue in Galt on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Musicians from all genres and all ages are invited to participate, and those who wish to just listen to their fellow neighbors are welcome to attend. The Senior Club in Galt welcomes seniors 55+ to join the club, which meets at the Chabolla Community Center, located at 600 Chabolla Ave., in Galt. Member business meetings are the first Monday of every month at 1 p.m. Bingo is held most Mondays starting at 1 p.m., and most Thursdays starting at 12:30 p.m. Fun Days and potlucks are held the second and third Mondays at 12:30 p.m. Game Days are every Friday starting at 12:30 p.m., with many games offered. Various other events are held throughout the year. Super Snazzy Sidewalk Sale
A super snazzy sidewalk sale will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the L’Chayim of Galt Women’s Center on Fourth Street, between D and E streets, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Diamond Dancers Square Dance Club

Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings
Nar-Anon Family Group Meetings is an anonymous program for friends and family members who are dealing with drug addiction. Local meetings are held weekly on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Galt United Methodist Church, 571 C Street in Galt.
Sunshine Closet donation sites
Sunshine Closet is a food and clothing closet that helps provide for local residents. Collections of canned food and dry good items, as well as gently used and new clothing, are received at Horizon Community Church, 446 Fairway Drive in Galt on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (209-745-0700) and at United Methodist Church, 471 C Street in Galt on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon (209-200-2628).
The clothes closet is open on the second Thursday from 9:30-11 a.m., and is located on the Fairsite campus, 902 Caroline Avenue in Galt, in the last portable classroom off the back parking lot.
The food closet is open on the second Thursday of each month from 8-10 a.m., and on the fourth Thursday from 8-9 a.m., at the United Methodist Church.
In order to continue helping the community, L’Chayim of Galt needs volunteers. If you can fold, measure, sort, count, cut, tag, sew, knit, crochet, visit, drink coffee or would just like to get out of the house a few hours a week, then this women’s drop-in center would love to see you.

L’Chayim Boutique and Gift Shop
L’Chayim of Galt helps make rag quilts for the needy in our community. Kits are available for home seamstresses to complete on their own time, or teachers are available Wednesdays to help with the quilts and have knowledge of rag quilt construction. Machines are available to use at L’Chayim.
L’Chayim received a wonderful donation of flannel, child-themed prints and other prints at affordable prices. A limited supply of corduroy and upholstery fabric will be $1 a yard.
