Happy Eat an Extra Dessert Day! Now this is a day I can get behind and promote. All the dieting, ketoing (is that even a word?) lifestyle changes can be so depressing, why not treat yourself to an extra dessert without guilt and just enjoy.
The history of desserts starts with the end of the meal. Dessert is usually made of something sweet and served at the end of the dinner meal. However, in modern times, dessert can accompany a mid-day meal as well.
Desserts are also known as sweets in many parts of the world. It is unclear who created this awesome but unofficial holiday, but I think whoever it was deserves a big slice of cake with a huge bowl of ice cream.
Best way to celebrate the day – have a dessert party. Have your guests all bring desserts and sample to your hearts’ content. But the downside, make sure you are equipped with healthy food for the sugar crash afterward.
Did you have a good Labor Day weekend? I saw a lot of trailers, RVs, pickups and boats pass by on Highway 104 last Wednesday and continue through Saturday. I guess being the unofficial last weekend of summer got some people motivated to make the best of it. Don and I stayed home and enjoyed doing only what we wanted to do – a few regular chores that had to be done that are just part of living in the country. The rest of the time we enjoyed the weather, visiting friends and eating barbecue.
Speaking of the weather, it wasn’t all that bad. Maybe I am finally getting used to it. But I tell you what, you won’t catch me living in Florida or anywhere on the south east coast where Hurricane Dorian is bearing down, and families are packing up and heading for higher ground. That is just scary.
Say what you will about California and the possibilities of earthquakes, I can’t imagine living in a place that has hurricanes every year. And they even call it Hurricane season. Yep, give me the west coast any day.
Do you have your autumn decoration containers out of storage? I’m close to asking for them to be brought down from the attic. I want to start by adding a bit of fall colors for September when the Autumnal Equinox starts the shortening of days and then adds some pumpkins in October. The weather is supposed to start cooling off and it will soon feel more like fall. One can only hope.
Shout out and happy birthday on Friday to my darling granddaughter Grace. She’ll be 16 and getting her driver’s license soon. Give her a big wave as you pass her on the road. Love you more, baby girl.
