Galt High band

Posing in a photo from 1972, Galt High School Band members are getting ready for a St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Sophomore Alan Jacobson and freshman John King are wearing uniforms first issued in 1964 and would be replaced by a newer uniform in 1977. The combination thick, black wool jacket and imitation bearskin hat made performing in temperatures above 80 degrees a little intolerable. Back in the day, the marching band at Galt High School averaged about 40 members. Lack of interest has caused the numbers to dwindle to the point where the two high schools had to combine bands. Thanks to Laura Baker for the photo from the collection of her grandfather, Jacob Jacobson.
