McFarland Ranch

John McFarland was an avid photographer who spent part of his idle time taking shots of his ranch. This interesting one came out of an extensive collection of his photos in possession of the Galt Area Historical Society. McFarland climbed through an opening in the attic and set his camera up on the “widow’s walk.” The shot is of the area north of the house. In the distance are the trees that follow the Cosumnes River. The lack of leaves on the trees and unplanted acreage make this photo appear to have been taken during the winter.
