Galt Lumber Company

Like scores of ethnic Germans from Russia before him, Raymond Henry Ost migrated from North Dakota for the sunshine of California. In Lodi, he met and married another North Dakota transplant, Minnie Carolina Gruzie, and moved up the highway close to Galt. It was there the Osts opened Galt Lumber Company. Located on the southeast corner of State Highway 99 and Jahant Road, the Ost family stocked everything from lumber to sheetrock. Eventually, Galt Lumber Company would be renamed Ace Lumber Company when Ray and Minnie’s son Don took over. Today, the site is Benton Fence Company. Posing in the photo is Ray Ost.
