Thomas and Lillian Quiggle -
A studio photo of Thomas and Lillian Quiggle shows the couple just after their marriage in 1900. Tom Quiggle had the distinction of being the first boy born in Galt. After attending Alabama School in the Herald area, he took courses at the Atkinson Business College in Sacramento. After owning a store in Sacramento, he farmed for two years on the family farm. Wanting to get back in sales, Quiggle went to work for Whitaker & Ray for 13 years and then was with Wallace B. Sawyer for three years. In 1914, he bought out the firm of Quiggle & Warren (Herald Store). His father erected the store building in 1912, and a year later, a post office was added. When Tom Quiggle took over the store, he also became the postmaster.
