Office of Dr. Obed Harvey

Dr. Obed Harvey attended the University of Iowa Medical School. He came to California during the Gold Rush, but Harvey made his fortune practicing medicine and farming, instead of mining. Harvey became good friends with Charles Crocker, one of the Big Four of the Central Pacific Railroad. Crocker helped Harvey lay out the town of Galt. Dr. Harvey was one of three physicians that resided in Galt at the time. His office was within yards of his home on 2nd Street. This photo is of Harvey’s office just after his passing in 1894 and was located across from Harvey Park.
