Vintage fire truck

Someone snapped a photograph of a 1920s vintage fire truck parked on the eastside of Angus Quenell’s Garage in Galt. Quenell was a volunteer fireman and stored the town’s fire equipment in the back of his garage. For the first 90 years of its history, Galt’s firemen were volunteers starting with the Eureka Fire Brigade in the 1880s. The fire chief and assistant fire chief started to receive salaries in 1961. The photo was probably taken in the 1930s after Quenell had opened his garage. The fire truck was most likely used when the department got it. Equipment funds were limited.
