Louis Rouppet

Louis Rouppet was born in Savoy, France in 1881. He came to this country in 1902 as a trained chef, working at some of the finest hotels and restaurants. With stops in New York, Chicago and New Orleans, his last big exclusive job was in San Francisco at the famous Cliff House. Rouppet survived the Great San Francisco Earthquake, but a fire that destroyed the Cliff House in 1907 gave Rouppet the desire to get away from the larger cities and settle on a poultry ranch in the Herald area. His love of cooking continued as he owned several Sacramento restaurants, including Louis Quick Lunch at 513 Broadway. Pictured in the photo are Louis, his wife Emilee, and daughter Amiee. The Rouppets also had three sons, Louis Jr., Paul and John. Thanks to Steve Rouppet for the photo.
