Sitting down with friends and neighbors for a complete turkey dinner is an event not to be missed. It’s also a chance to see all the city dignitaries serving mashed potatoes, turkey and more. This year, Galt Sunrise Rotary will once again feed anyone who shows up at the door on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Littleton Community Center.
“This is the best thing that we do,” said Mel Shamblen of Galt Sunrise Rotary. “I like the way it brings all of us together, both poor and rich. It’s open to everyone who wants to come down for a good dinner.”
Galt businesses, along with private donors, make this event a true community endeavor. This year, both Save Mart and Raley’s will hold a donation drive to ensure everyone will be fed. Shamblen said they have plenty of turkeys, but need stuffing mix, bacon, green beans, cranberry sauce, salad fixings and food items to make gravy. Save Mart will host the drive this Saturday, Dec. 7, and Raley’s will host a drive on both Dec. 7 and 8.
Santa Claus will also entertain the kids. They can get their faces painted and try their skills at a Christmas craft. City officials, local FFA and 4-H members, and Boy Scouts will be serving. Many of our city leaders will be manning the barbecues filled with turkeys.
Shamblen wishes to thank the Elk Grove Food Bank for their donations of 79 turkeys, Elk Grove Walmart for another 39 turkeys, Raley’s and Save Mart for freezer space and food donations, and all the businesses that make this event special.
