Miss Lillian Barsetti, known to most of her friends as “Dit,” revealed last Sunday her betrothal to Lt. Frederick R. Jenks. She is the very attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Barsetti. She was one of the most popular girls ever to have attended Galt High School.

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 18, the grand opening of the new cash and carry Washington Market is scheduled to take place in the former location of Stefan’s Store. Mr. Bert Bader, well known to the people of Galt and vicinity, has been selected by Mr. Washington as manager of the new store.

Ben T. Casado, mayor of Galt for the last four years, was re-elected to another four-year term in office last Tuesday evening at a special meeting of the Galt City Council.

R. Clifford May, justice of the peace of Lee Township for the past six years, announced this week he will be a candidate for the post of Judge of the new Elk Grove-Galt Judicial District … Godfrey F. Mix Jr., the present Judge of San Joaquin Township Justice Court in Elk Grove, announced he is seeking election to the new judgeship of the Elk Grove-Galt Judicial District.

Mayor Bennie Casado was re-elected mayor to serve for the next two years when Galt city councilmen held a special meeting Tuesday.

Charter members of the Order of Eastern Star were honored at the April meeting held April 6. Three of them were present: Mrs. Geneve Harms, Mrs. Mary Pritchard and Thomas Evans.

Having opened successfully last Friday evening, the Galt High Thespians’ presentation of Thornton Wilder’s play “Our Town” continues for two more performances. Randy Thomas brings a moving sincerity to the role of narrator. There are warm and human performances too by Mike Grenie as the town doctor, Nancy Clem as his wife, Randy Rosa as the editor of the local paper, Bonnie Morehead as the editor’s wife, and Carol Mote as the town gossip.

City Clerk Berniece Shelley received an official certification from the executive offices of the Department of Finance giving the official population of Galt as 3,597 as of Jan. 13, 1972.

Former Galt Mayor Cedro Casado won 56% of the vote in Tuesday’s City Council elections. Casado, along with incumbent Don Prachar and retired Galt High School superintendent Orvell Fletcher, will fill the three open council seats.

Galt is No. 1 — in soccer, that is. The Galt “Warriors” under-16 competitive soccer team, winners of the league season in the Tracy Soccer League, ran roughshod over five other teams to win the Tracy Soccer League Invitational Tournament held March 13 and 20.
