May 12, 1939

Funeral services were held yesterday for the late Augustus Hauschildt, aged 70, retired farmer, who died last Monday night in his home in Sacramento. Hauschildt lived in this county for the past 25 years. He operated a large ranch east of here until a few years ago, when he retired and moved to Sacramento.

At the annual meeting of the Sacramento County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the following were elected as the board of directors: Carl Herzog, Courtland; Dwight Stephensen, Elk Grove; A.L. Lindsay, Franklin; Paul Urben, Elk Grove; O.C. Mays, Galt; and L.B. Johnston, Elk Grove.

May 13, 1949

The Recruitment Section of the State Personnel Board came to Galt High Tuesday to give typing tests to, and hold personal interviews with senior girls interested in working as clerks, typists or stenographers. The girls who took the tests were Wanda Crosson, Darlene Quashnick, Lorraine Jaymot, Darlene Marengo, Sheila Sullivan, Loretta Stoddard, LaVern McMullen and Elaine Mullins. All the girls passed the test.

May 14, 1959

Thieves sometime Saturday night broke into the Galt Department Store and made off with merchandise valued at $500. The robbers were believed to have entered the store some time after closing and 6:30 a.m., when the theft was discovered. Certain sizes of men’s clothing were selected by the thieves.

May 15, 1969

Seven members of the Galt FFA attended the State Future Farmers convention at Cal Poly. Jim Aschwanden and Leonard Vandenburg were Galt’s delegates to the convention and Harold Anderson, Rex Olson, Roger Hoffman and John Coote attended to receive their state farmer degrees. Richard Denier also attended, entering and winning several scholarships and other high honors.

Ten members of Galt Jaycees attended the annual California State Jaycee Convention in Anaheim last weekend and came home with five awards – one second and four thirds – for their efforts during the 1968-69 year.

Patricia Ann Steffan and Patrick Lenard Stiehr informally announced their engagement to friends and relatives on Easter Sunday. Patricia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Steffan of Carmichael. Patrick, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Stiehr of Galt, attended Galt schools and was a graduate of 1965.

Linda Marie McEnerney of Galt, and Frederick Heltzel of Sacramento became husband and wife when they recited nuptial vows April 28 in a double ring ceremony at the Carmichael Presbyterian Church.

May 13, 1989

Kelly Lee Oswald and Claudio Comporato will be wed Aug. 12, the couple announced recently at the home of Karen and Richard Rice of Galt. The bride-elect, a graduate of Galt High School, currently works for the U.S. Postal Service in Lodi. She is the daughter of the late Judy McKindley and Rollie Oswald. The benedict-elect graduated from Lodi’s Tokay High School and Stockton’s San Joaquin Delta College. He is the son of the late Tony Comporato and Angelina Comporato.
