Fernand Steiner, 4½-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Steiner of Thornton, was treated at Buchanan’s Sanitarium Saturday for a fractured left arm. He fell while playing with some other boys who were making model airplanes.

Ted Veach of Long Beach was in Galt Tuesday with a group of oilmen. They were looking over the oil fields east of Galt with the intention of locating a field for drilling operations.

Oct. 13, 1950

A son weighing 9 pounds 6 ounces was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Winn on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Buchanan Hospital in Lodi. The baby has been named Richard Arlin.

Bud Osborn and family have established their residence on the John Renke ranch in Herald.

Mrs. Ann Bethards of Thornton was hostess to the bridge foursome: Mrs. Glenn Ingram, Mrs. Vic Porterfield and Mrs. Alice Hambleton.

Oct. 13, 1960

Jake L. Schneider, 44-year-old rancher from Sloughhouse, has been named California Livestock Man of the Year for 1960 by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce.

Students in the three eighth grades at Galt Elementary School elected officers last Thursday. Craig McKee was named class president, Dee Lawrence vice president, Christine Johnson secretary, Karen Gaffke treasurer, Pat Stiehr party chairman, Ron Betz assistant, Stanley Clark editor of the school newspaper, Isabel Denier assistant.

Sue Sayre was selected to reign over the Galt High School homecoming activities last week and Sheila Huggins was named senior princess. Sally Giovannoni was junior princess, Gail Brooks sophomore princess and Jeannie Hopkins freshman princess.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hollison Sr. will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 18 while Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hollison Jr., their son and wife, will celebrate their silver anniversary on that same date.

After a careful application process, the City Council selected Waldo Kolb of Woodland as Galt’s first fulltime city engineer.
