Mr. and Mrs. Dan Fachner of Galt motored to Medford, Ore. a week ago Saturday to spend the weekend visiting their son, Dan, who is now stationed at Camp White, Ore. They report finding Dan in excellent health and well pleased by Army life.

Miss Matilda Altnow and Mr. Robert Porpat of Galt motored to Reno Wednesday, Sept. 9 where they were united in marriage. They will make their home here. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Altnow of Galt and is well known in Galt and surrounding community. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Porpat, ranchers in this district. He is now employed in Sonora on government work.

Sept. 19, 1952

Announcement was made this week of the engagement of Miss Harriet Jackson of Acampo and Emil Breitmeyer of the U.S. Air Force. The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jackson and the future groom is the son of Mrs. Maria Breitmeyer of Galt. The couple are both graduates of Galt High School.

Newly elected officers of the Galt Chamber of Commerce are E.J. Olson, manager of Robinson’s, re-elected president; W.J. Forney, principal of Galt High School, elected vice president; R.E. Foote, re-elected secretary; and Charles Bellie, field man for Sego Milk Co., elected treasurer.

Sept. 20, 1962

Voters of the Galt and Lodi districts voted by a heavy majority for establishment of a Junior College district which will serve San Joaquin County and the south end of Sacramento County.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott, Galt, are the proud parents of a bouncing baby boy born at Lodi Memorial Hospital Sept. 7 and weighing 9 pounds 4 ounces. His parents have named him Brad Andrew. Scott is the ag teacher at Galt High School.

Sept. 21, 1972

Mr. and Mrs. Art Heinle of Galt went by plane to Fort Benning, Ga. where they attended the graduation of their son David from the U.S. Army Officers Candidates School with the rank of second lieutenant on Tuesday, Aug. 29. He graduated in the top 10 in a class of over 200.

For the fifth consecutive year Valley Oaks Grange has won first place in the Variety Feature booths at the Lodi Grape and Wine Festival. The theme of “Say it With Flowers” was carried out with the rhyme “Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle shells, and Lodi grapes judged best in show.”

Sept. 16, 1982

Reverend Sidney Peter Hall has been named pastor of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, to succeed Rev. Carl Willman, who retired Sept. 12. A native of Sacramento, Father Hall has been working with the Hispanic population of Galt since July 1981.

Doug and Diana Matthews of Galt are the proud parents of a baby boy, born July 22 at Lodi Memorial Hospital. Named Daniel LeRoy, he weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19½ inches long.
