The City Council lost and gained a member last Tuesday night. The resignation of Ray Ost, which was submitted at last week’s Council meeting, was accepted and the nomination of Henry Bachman by Mayor Bennie T. Casado to fill the vacant post was accepted shortly thereafter. The oath of office was administered by City Clerk Jack Mingo.
Mrs. Hattie Stevens, a resident of the Galt District for two years, is re-opening the Fashion Shop at 613 B Street, formerly operated by Mrs. Frances Wantz. Mrs. Stevens plans to add infants’ wear with the children’s and ladies ready-to-wear at the Fashion Shop.
June 18, 1959
A 1949 grey Plymouth was stolen right out from under the eyes of E.H. McCallister Wednesday morning. McCallister, who works with Mrs. Orah Holland on Fourth Street, left his car in front of the business about 9 a.m. Thirty minutes later, he went out to check his car and it was gone.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Andrew Smith of Galt are the proud parents of a son, Stephen Alfred, who arrived June 18 at Sacramento Mercy Hospital.
June 13, 1969
The city of Galt will grow by over 85 acres, and 15 acres were approved Tuesday night at the regular meeting of the Galt City Council. The “LaVagnino” annexation was approved, which has 15 acres on the southern part of the city. Another 70.4 acres was submitted by Eric Spiess. His annexation would be bounded on the east by First Street on the north by New Hope Road, on the west by an existing property line and on the south by Kost Road.
The engagement of Julie L. Kenourgios and Greg J. Rausser was announced to family and friends at an informal gathering following graduation exercises June 6 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kenourgios, on Palin Avenue in Galt.
Miss Rebecca Ann Croley and Dennis D. McAllister, both of Galt, were united in marriage June 6 in the bride’s home, with Rev. Thomas Kring of the Galt Methodist Church officiating.
June 21, 1979
The City Council is strongly in favor of leasing excess land across from the new city hall on Civic Drive in order to keep the parks operating and open. All money derived from potential leases would go to the upkeep of the park system.
June 22, 1989
The principal vacancy at Galt High was filled with the hiring of a former Stockton-area principal at Monday’s Galt Joint Union High School District board meeting. James Lake, former principal of Greenville High School in Plumas County, will take over July 1 the position vacated by Carolyn Loughridge, who left in April. Loughridge had been principal since 1985.
