To begin training as a new recruit in one of the camps at the U.S. Naval Training Station, Farragut, Idaho this week is Frederick Evers, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Evers and husband of Mrs. R.F. Evers of Galt.

Norman Winn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Winn of Galt, arrived here last Saturday from Farragut, Idaho to spend a few days at the home of his parents and visit friends in this district. He has been promoted to 1st Class Petty Officer.

Word was received here the latter part of last week of the birth of a daughter at the Sutter Maternity Hospital in Sacramento to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patton. The new arrival was named Kathleen Gail.

April 23, 1953

Miss Mary Jane McEnerney, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. McEnerney of Galt, became the bride of LeRoy Horning, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Horning, also of this city at a ceremony performed Thursday at Point Pleasant … A double wedding reception was held Sunday evening for the newlyweds and also for Mr. and Mrs. Allen (Buz) McEnerney who were married in Reno last Saturday evening. She is the former Margaret Stemler of Galt.

The first birthday of wee Terry Wayne Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Patterson of Galt, was celebrated at his home recently. Terry Wayne was the first baby to be born at the new Lodi Memorial Hospital in Lodi.

April 18, 1963

The Galt Bakery moved into larger and more modern quarters, Bill Wageman and Dorothy Bechthold, owners, announced this week. The business was moved to 215 Lincoln Way between the Fashion Shop and Galt Western Auto.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Preston, Galt, are the proud parents of a girl, Sharon Ruth, born March 29, weighing 9 pounds 13 ounces … Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Riddlesperger of Acampo are the proud parents of a son, Todd George, born April 10 at Community Hospital, weighing 7 pounds.

April 19, 1973

Incumbents in every case in the local school elections were returned to office in Tuesday’s election. For the high school, it’s Aleck Dambacher Jr., Reinhold Seifert and Don Uhrich. Galt Elementary – Don Nottoli, Philip Loring and Janet Pellandini; Arcohe – James Ryan, Ben Cox Jr. and Frank Uhercik.

Floyd Bane was elected president to lead the Galt Lions in their 11th year.

April 14, 1983

The Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Centern (formerly St. Pius Seminary) had its formal opening ceremonies Friday, April 8. Welcomes to the Galt area were given by Supervisor Toby Johnson, Mayor Marian Lawrence, and a representative of Senator John Garamendi’s office.

Sierra Video has opened a branch outlet in Tom’s Liquors at 223 Market, in the Galt Shopping Center. Offerings include “Blade Runner” and “An Officer and a Gentleman.” Movie rentals are $3 each per night. Those without a VCR can also rent a machine and two movies for as little as $12.95 for a night.
