Mesdames Dorothy Pearson, Phoebe McAlister, Della Miller, Faye Jenkins and Harriet Sutton met at the home of the latter on Walnut Street in Lodi for a regular Junior Women’s Club meeting. Work was started on a handmade quilt, which the club intends to raffle off.

Mrs. William Balliet, sponsor of the Junior Missionary Society of the Community Methodist Church, entertained the society and their mystery pals at a party on the parsonage lawn last Thursday afternoon. Jane Nicholson led the group in games. Punch, sandwiches and cake were served to the more than 40 who were present.

An accidental flash fire at the old Botsbach Hotel, which now houses Jerry’s Market, the A&B Cleaners and five apartments, caused damage estimated at well over $15,000 last Saturday. Only swift action by the Galt Fire Department saved the building from being completely demolished.

The home of the Robert Reeds was a pleasant setting for a gathering of the Junior Women’s Club members last Friday evening, Aug. 29. The event was a celebration and shower for the new Pearson twins, Debara and David. Their mother, Mrs. Dorothy Pearson, was honored to accept the compliments and best wishes for their happy future.

Mobile clinics will be set up by the Sacramento County Medical Society next Thursday, September 13, at the Galt Elementary, Galt High, Fairsite and Arcohe Schools for administration of the Sabin oral polio vaccine to students. Clinics will administer two drops of the oral vaccine on a cube of sugar to each child.

Gary Hoffman’s Poland China Boar highlighted the Galt High School FFA stay at the California State Fair. During the fair, Hoffman, Jerry Aguilar, Bob MacFarlane and Greg and Gary Rausser won a collective 31 ribbons, including one champion ribbon.

The Earl Frey residence on Southdale in Galt had an unexpected and devastating visitor Tuesday night when a car driven by Johnny Mahurin lost control and slammed into the living room of the Frey residence.

Meadowview subdivision in the southwest part of the city received a “go ahead” from the city council Tuesday night as they approved the subdivision plot plan. The first unit has 70 home sites.

Scott Norcross and Lupe Edul, Galt high school seniors, were sponsored by the Galt Jaycees to attend a youth leadership conference held at Stanford University by the California Department of Justice. Kent Shebelut, chairman of the committee, accompanied them to the event, Aug. 24-27.
Sept. 2, 1982
On August 21st and 22nd the California State 4-H Horse Show was held at the Sacramento Horsemen’s Association arena. Lisa Sutton represented Galt 4-H. Riding her pony “Princess Shalene” and her horse “What’s Up Doc,” Lisa won several awards, including first place in five categories.

Marine Pfc. Robert D. Davis, son of James C. and Henrietta Davis of Thornton, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, learning the basics of battlefield survival.
