Galt has a family that is 100 percent in war work, the Reginald Wards. There are two sons in the armed forces, and the father is in war work. Mrs. Ward – not to be outdone by the male members – is now employed in essential war work.

Galt Herald publisher Fred Wing sends the paper to those in service, and hears back from them. Latest words were received from Staff Sgt. George Lewis in North Africa, Corp. Dick Hertling in Pyote, Texas, Seaman 2nd Class Lyle Caldwell in Seaside, Ore., Lorence J. Radke, Sgt. 1st class in Williamsburg, Va., Howard Wegat in Farragut, Idaho, and John Kohnke from Camp Barkley, Texas.

Feb. 12, 1953

Mrs. Charlotte Templeton of Galt has been elected president of the Galt Elementary Parent Teachers Association. Other officers are Mrs. Laura Williams, first vice president; Martin Cabalzar, second vice president; Mrs. Ann Schauer, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Mae Evans, financial secretary; Mrs. June Diede, treasurer; Mrs. Marge Weathers, auditor; Mrs. Ruth Stiehr, historian and Mrs. Dorothy Pearson, parliamentarian.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Lavagnino of Galt are the parents of a daughter, Anna, born Jan. 25. She weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces … Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Tobeck of Galt are the parents of a son, Bradley Allan, born Jan. 29 weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces … Mr. and Mrs. Albert Breitmaier of Galt are the parents of a son born Feb. 10 … Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Winn of Galt are the proud parents of a son, Larry Ray, born Feb. 10 weighing 9 pounds 10 ounces.

Feb. 7, 1963

Dr. Donald Brown, optometrist and rancher, was elected a member of the board of trustees of the new junior college district and will represent Area 5, which includes Galt. Dr. Brown won over Galt candidates C. Norman Brown and Gustav Gerling.

Galt’s new golf course, now under construction south of Galt, was given a bath when heavy rains flooded Dry Creek and a small dam broke under the torrential downpour of the last storm.

Feb. 8, 1973

Saturday, Feb. 3, Dennis Johnson of the Galt FFA was elected Regional President at the Central Region meeting in Modesto. He will be officially installed at the California FFA State Convention at San Luis Obispo in May. Dennis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.R. Johnson of Pellandini Road, Galt.

Homer Bowlin of Galt is the new owner and operator of Bowlin’s Shell Station at Highway 99 and Pringle Avenue.

Feb. 3, 1983

Oak View School held its spelling bee recently, with Cheryl Cox, 8th grade, named as the winner; Bunnie Hill, 7th grade, placing second; and Carrie Nelson, 8th grade, placing third.

Also at Oak View, the Cub Scouts, Pack 84, sponsored a pinewood soapbox racing contest on Jan. 27. Paul Hollison, Ian Schmidt and Kelly Mooney were first, second and third place winners respectively. Chuck Beach was named winner of the “Old Fogies” race.
