A telegram was received from the United States War Department last week by Mr. and Mrs. Rathjen of Galt stating that their son, who was reported missing from Pearl Harbor and whom they had believed was dead, was alive and a prisoner of war in Japan.

Leo Boyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd of this place, was here during the past week visiting his mother and family. He was a member of the Cunningham crew when they went to the aid of the stricken McFarland and its dead and wounded.

Mrs. Louise Dowdell, who is employed at the Greyhound stage depot in Stockton, was visiting with relatives and friends in Galt during the forepart of the week.

A petition containing 560 signatures of Galt area farmers interested in forming an irrigation district was presented Monday to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The proposed district would take advantage of water from the Nimbus Dam in the Folsom Dam project, with the irrigation water to be diverted from the Folsom South Canal.

Mar-Val Food Stores got the green light from the planning commission Thursday night to rebuild their fire-destroyed market on C Street.

Mr. and Mrs. Kit Arlin are the proud parents of a baby boy born Feb. 2 in Lodi Memorial Hospital. The young man weighed a bouncing 9 pounds 1 ounce and is named Dennis Edward.

Susan P. Hagan has been named Galt Joint Union High School’s 1973 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. She is a senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagan of Galt.

Shirley Sing was named the honorary life member for 1973 at the Galt Elementary School PTA Founders Day meeting Tuesday night.

The Galt Theater is closed! After thirty four years the doors closed for the last time the end of January. According to Gabina Jaime, lack of attendance was cited for the reason for closure. The old theater will be remodeled and made into offices for the Social Welfare Department.

1981 Galt High alumna Lori Mize has been selected to be a part of an American track and field team that will travel to the Philippines and face the Philippine national team.
“I’m ecstatic and amazed that I will have a chance to compete for the US team in the Philippines,” said Mize. “It will be a chance for me to get national exposure and a possible shot at the 1984 or 1988 olympics.”
