Matt’s Café & Restaurant, located at Twin Cities corner, three miles north of Galt, has been purchased by Claire Adkins of San Francisco and will be opened for business on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The sophomore and junior classes at Galt High School have elected officers. Leading the sophomores will be Donald Ladd, president; Don McCormick, vice president; Barbara Cameron, secretary; Walter Urben, treasurer; Billy Cox, representative; Louise Bader, girls’ athletic director; and Arnold Quarton, boys’ athletic director. Juniors elected Jack Mingo, president; Henrietta Schmidt, vice president; Ruby Kirby, secretary; Gloria Cooley, treasurer; Ernestine DeFord, representative; Gloria Ferreira, girls athletic director; Harold Erich, boys’ athletic director; Dorothy Williams, yell leader.

Sept. 29, 1950

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Williams of Galt are announcing the engagement of their daughter Bonnie to Otto Gross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gross of Twin Cities. Both are recent graduates of Galt High School.

Miss Wanda Engel of Galt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Engel, has entered San Jose State College where she will take a general elementary teaching course.

Janet Bottimore of Herald who was a Junior 4-H Club leader last year, has been elected to head the Herald Community 4-H Club for the new year.

Sept. 29, 1960

Paul Hagen and E.H. McCallister were appointed to the city planning commission during a meeting of the city council Tuesday night. The two succeed Albert Schauer and Gus Marengo who resigned.

A new church is being formed in Galt, the Church of Christ. The group will hold their first worship service this Sunday, Oct. 2 in the Women’s Clubhouse at 10:45 a.m.

Oct. 1, 1970

The Galt Methodists broke ground last Sunday morning for their new church to be erected on the corner of 6th and C streets. The old structure that stood on the site was torn down earlier this year.

Fifty years ago on Sept. 19, 1920 Roy C. Harper and Iva J. Ray were married at Purdy, Mo. Exactly 50 years later their daughter, Alice Wolfe and sons, James and Franklin and spouses honored their parents at a reception at their home in Galt.

Oct. 2, 1980

The Sacramento Valley Division of the league of California Cities elected Galt City Administrator Joe Tanner as president. Tanner has been Galt’s administrator since 1973.

Delphine Kay Berger of Acampo and Michael D. Kame of Stockton, became husband and wife when they recited nuptial vows Sept. 13.

Teresa Ann Lockinger and Donald Wood Denney, both of Wilton, were united in marriage at a double ring equestrian ceremony on Sept. 6.
