Little Miss Barbara Caudle was the guest of honor at a birthday party at the home of her parents on 5th Street where Cecille Bellie, Donna Jean Marengo, Barbara and Betty Balliet, Virginia Lee Bader, Helen Doering, Florence, Patricia and Dorothy Schaffer, Eloise Daniels, Joan Miner, Janet Paul, Mabel Fuqua and Alice Fay Ballinger helped Miss Barbara celebrate her 6th birthday.

April 28, 1950

Jacquelyn Shellenbarger, junior student at Galt Joint Union High School, has been announced as the first place winner in District 6 of the American Legion essay contest. She competed against schools in Grass Valley, Woodland, Sacramento, Auburn, Placerville and Elk Grove among others. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shellenbarger of Galt are her parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Angele of Galt are the proud parents of a daughter, Rebecca Kay, born at Buchanan Hospital on April 18. She weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces … Mr. and Mrs. Walter Litchfield of Galt are the parents of a daughter, Diane Rachele, born at Mason Hospital on April 20. She weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces.

April 28, 1960

Cindy Barkley marked her 3rd birthday March 16 with a party hosted by her mother, Mrs. Barbara Barkley and her aunt, Mrs. Nora Lindberg. Fifteen children and five mothers were present besides her grandmother, Mrs. Joe Lindberg and her neighbor, Mrs. I.C. McFarland.

Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bachman served a christening dinner for Terri Oswald who was baptized into the Lutheran Church. Guests from Galt were Terri’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. ElRoy Oswald, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Merkins, Heidi and Chuckie; Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Oswald and Joe.

April 30, 1970

Wayne Patterson, 42, was named this year’s Galt Citizen of the Year last night with Art Heinle, Bob Biederman and Bob Lawrence receiving special awards.

In a joint venture Saturday evening, the Galt Festival Board, the Galt Chamber of Commerce and the Galt High School drama and music departments made the 1970 Miss Galt Pageant “one of the most enjoyable evenings in Galt’s history.” The girl chosen out of the six contestants, to represent the area as Miss Galt, was 17-year-old Roseanne Hess, a senior at Galt High School.

May 1, 1980

A Galt man was uninjured when a pipe bomb wired to the underside of his pickup truck exploded Monday morning, April 28. Thurman “Skip” Allen Roberts, 39, of S. Lincoln Way was backing his Chevrolet pickup out of his driveway that morning when the explosion took place. Sgt. Doug Matthews called it a “miracle” that Roberts sustained no injuries.
