June 21, 1940

At a meeting held in Community Hall in Alta Mesa last Monday night, committees were appointed for the annual fair on Saturday, Aug. 24. Mr. Stanley Jenkins was elected general chairman and Mr. Herman Sturmer elected secretary.

The Better Half Club of Galt met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Betty Willis. Those in attendance were Mrs. Willis, Carmen Jamieson, Doris LeMaster, Della Miller, Vera Campbell, Aggie Immoos and Vera Hobday.

June 16, 1950

On June 9, four members of the Homemaking classes at Galt High School received certificates of honor for the best clothing work. Connie Skinner and Shirley Mae Fox received awards for best work among girls who had never sewed before. Donna Bachman and Patsy McGarva received awards for having 4-H Club work before entering class.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Olson returned last week from a week’s vacation at Vancouver Islands, Canada where they visited friends and relatives.

June 23, 1960

Bill Eugene Beck has been appointed pastor of the Community Methodist Church in Galt. Rev. Beck is from Lodi and graduated from College of the Pacific, Stockton, and Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology.

Open house last Saturday at the new Farmers and Merchants Bank building at 811 C Street drew more than 1,200 Galt district residents.

Galt 4-H Club and Elk Grove chapter Future Farmers of America were awarded the coveted Directors’ Trophies last week at the Sacramento County Fair. Gov. Edmund G. Brown made the presentations to Nancy Goldsmith and Blair Hoyt for their respective organizations.

June 25, 1970

Sioe Lan Tan will be leaving July 1 on her first leg of a return trip back to her native Indonesia. She’s an ICYE student and has been staying during the school year with the Lyndell Fikes family in Galt.

Marshood and Dottie Farhat of Galt are the proud parents of a daughter, Kimberly Kay who arrived at 3:40 a.m. June 18 at Lodi Community Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds.

June 26, 1980

A 17-year-old male Galt resident suffered knife wounds in the chest and left elbow last week during a verbal and physical altercation with other teenagers.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Keim are announcing the engagement of their daughter Debbie to Tom Phillips.
