A total of 136 young men in Galt registered in the three precincts last Wednesday for the draft for compulsory military training under the provision of the Selective Service Act to strengthen America’s defense on land and sea.

Mrs. Lida Bowman-Ward, local Justice of the Peace, was a Sacramento business visitor last Wednesday.

A surprise party honoring Principal and Mrs. Wendell Forney of Galt High School was held at the Women’s Civic Club house by the faculty of the high school on Tuesday evening, Oct. 17.

Sue Spaans was the reigning Homecoming Queen for Galt High School last weekend.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jacobson of Galt a daughter, Rachelle Janine, Oct. 19 at Lodi Memorial Hospital, weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces.

Last Tuesday a 15-year-old Mira Loma High School girl died as a result of the misuse of drugs, and the teenager who allegedly gave her the drugs was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder. Less than 48 hours later, Galt High School authorities found themselves with a narcotics problem of their own when a student marijuana buyer and seller were caught in a restroom at the school.

Tom Nevins, employee of Diede’s Plumbing and Electric, was named Employee of the Year Tuesday night at the chamber-sponsored event held at the Golden Acorn. Al Weakley made the presentation.

Galt Police Chief Bob Fuller has launched a ride along program that allows people in the community to accompany an officer while on patrol duty.

Vicious vandalism with musical instruments at Galt High School resulted in the damage of four instruments and the loss of one, according to Booster Club president Janet Long. Estimated damage is $500.
