Several Galt girls, under direction of Mrs. Erma Doering, have organized a bowling team and joined the Lodi Bowling League. The girls are sponsored by local businessmen. Mame Sherman represents Frank Dowdell; Marian Quenell, Scott’s Super Service; Helen Mollring, Galt Motors; Jeanne Patterson, Kent’s Market; and Erma Doering, Galt Herald.
Clayton Caldwell, a Galt High School graduate, is spending a few weeks working in Grass Valley. He has been drafted and will enter training on Oct. 20.
Oct. 5, 1951
Grand opening of the new giftware shop at the Galt Pharmacy will be held today, with free baby orchids for the ladies, it was announced by owner Marge Arlin. Construction work on the new addition to the store was done by Williams Brothers, local contractors.
Misses Darlene Pahl and Wanda Engel are enrolled for another year at San Jose State College. Accompanying them to San Jose recently were their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Engel and Mr. and Mrs. August Pahl.

Page 209 under the heading of “October menus” in the October issue of Sunset magazine holds much more than a passing interest for Jeanette Horazy, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Horazy of Wilton. Featured is a picture of a pumpkin with a pie, salad and bread sticks, depicting a Halloween menu. Jeanette, an eighth grader at Dillard Grammar School and a third year member of the Wilton 4-H Club, grew just the perfect pumpkin for the picture.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Pruitt of Galt a son, Kevin Keith, Sept. 14, 6:36 p.m., weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces, Lodi Memorial Hospital.

The Thornton Hotel, one of the city’s last remaining landmarks, burned over the weekend. Arson is being considered. The two-story frame building was completely burned to the ground. It served for many years as a hotel when Thornton was a railroad town.

Jill DyAnn Skelton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Skelton of Galt, and Hank Randal Griggs, son of Mrs. Velma Griggs of Lodi, became husband and wife July 18 when they recited nuptial vows in a garden wedding at the bride’s home.
