Liberty School closed last Friday with a picnic dinner. A special table was set for the eighth grade. Those seated at the table were Ellen Rieger, Betty Bley, Erwin Adolf, Waldamar Rieger, Arthur Adolf and Allen Urben. Malcolm McKindley, the teacher, treated the school children and visitors with ice cream.

June 2, 1950

The Board of Trustees of the Galt Joint Union High School met last Friday afternoon to canvass the ballots of the trustee election held last week and during the same session voted unanimously to reinstate Laurence Littleton and Willis Wolcott who had previously been released from their contracts for next year.

New officers elected May 25 by Future Homemakers of America are President, Shirley Schauer; Vice President, Ona Weatherman; Secretary, Janice McKenzie; Treasurer, Elsie Siefert; Historian, Cecile Bellie; Parliamentarian, Rita Loll; Song Leader, Patty Weidner; Publicity, Kathryn Mize; and Yell Leaders, Ardella Miller and Mardell Christesen.

June 2, 1960

Sharlene Spaans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Spaans of Galt and a senior at Stanford University, has been notified by the president that she is among the top 100 students in her class. She will receive her R.N. and Bachelor of Science degrees with great distinction.

June 4, 1970

Over 70 percent of the registered voters turned out for Tuesday’s primary election. With all the precincts in, incumbent Fred “Buster” May won the position of judge of the Elk Grove-Galt Judicial District.

June 5, 1980

More than 500 persons jammed into the new Galt Civic Center hearing charges of harassment, brutality, violation of women’s rights, profanity against Galt policemen, specifically against officers Don Young, Steve Cox and Sgt. Doug Mathews.

Linda Head of Manteca and William Reed of Galt announced their engagement on March 29. The future bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Head of Manteca, her fiancé is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed of Galt.

The engagement of Janice Patterson and Richard Silva J. was announced on April 27. The future bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Patterson of Galt, and her fiancé is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Silva of Thornton.

Sally Morehead was named champion of the Dry Creek Women’s Golf. JoAnne Steele was low, followed by Helen Triolo and Joy Zieman, and Marie Witherspoon tied for third.
