Sept. 12, 1941

The Herald school opened Tuesday, Sept. 2 with an enrollment of 20 pupils. This is an increase over last year’s registration, according to the teacher, Mrs. Ethel Kueny.

Charles Ladd, son of Mrs. Josephine Ladd of Galt, has joined the Army Air Corps and leaves Monday for the cadet training school for airmen in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Sept. 14, 1951

Albert Steiner, longtime grocery store owner and appliance dealer in Galt, was elected president of the Galt Businessmen’s Association at the regular meeting held Tuesday night. Mrs. Hattie Stevens, owner of the Galt Fashion Shop, was elected vice president and H.R. Tweith, Galt Herald publisher, was re-elected secretary-treasurer.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Farmer are the parents of a daughter, Katherine Diane, born at Mason Hospital on Sept. 5. She arrived at 5 a.m. and weighed 9 pounds … A daughter, Brenda Lee, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Denton on Sept. 12 at Mason Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds and arrived at 4 a.m. … Ronald Steven, newborn son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Aschwanden of Galt, arrived at Buchanan Hospital on Sept. 4. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces.

A new employee at the Galt Fashion Shop is Mrs. Louise Dowdell.

Sept. 14, 1961

Members of the Galt Union High School board of trustees, meeting in regular session Monday night, voted to enter the San Joaquin junior college district to the south when that district is formed.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. James Offield (Lois Schauer) a son, Daniel James, Sept. 8, Sutter Memorial, weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces … Born to Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Pratton of Galt a son, Rodney Wayne, Aug. 28, Lodi Memorial Hospital, 7:54 a.m., weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces.

Sept. 16, 1971

The Valley Oaks Grange took a first prize for their variety feature booth at the Lodi Grape Festival held last weekend. The Galt High School Letter Girls took a first place in the Sunday parade in the drill team competition and the Dirty Thirties placed second in floats from outside the Lodi district. In the children’s parade, Doug Jacobsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Jacobsen, and Timmy Warnke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Warnke, all of Galt, won the couple’s trophy for youths ages 1 to 6.

Sept. 17, 1981

Marie Alyce Pratton and Bob Williams were married Aug. 22 at the St. Pius Seminary. The 7 p.m. ceremony was performed by Father De Groud and witnessed by 450 guests.

Beverly Fern Johnson of Galt and Normon Edward Liebig, also of Galt, joined the justweds when they recited nuptial vows May 16 at the First Congregational Church in Lodi, with Rev. Herbert Hirshfield performing the double ring ceremony.
