A request that school opening dates be deferred in the agriculture counties wherever necessary, so as to make all possible labor available for crop harvesting has been addressed to county supervisors of schools throughout the state by the general manager of the state Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Williams, son Tony and daughter Bonnie left Monday morning for Boise, Idaho for a 16-day vacation.

The Herald School is very attractive with its new coat of paint on both the inside and outside. Several large bookcases were also added. Teachers for the coming year are Mrs. B. Andrews and Mrs. Marian Lawrence.

On Friday afternoon Aug. 3, a baby shower was held in honor of Mrs. Otto Gross and infant son Kenneth Richard at the home of Mrs. E.L. Williams of Galt. The hostesses were Mrs. Ruth Johnson, Mrs. E.L. Williams and Mrs. Andrew Gross.

Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Gross gave a birthday party for Linda for her 10th birthday on July. 20.

Mr. and Mrs. George Hebert stayed home Wednesday evening expecting the Don Nottolis to drop in. When they drove up, they were accompanied by a group, and the “surprise housewarming” was out of the bag. Planners were Helen Fuller, Dorothy Merkins, Frances Breien, Cindy Hausauer and Rita Nottoli.

Mrs. Robert Paul Hilder (Jan), Galt High School graduate, mother of two, foster mother of two, homemaker, part-time secretary and college student, is one of Sacramento’s Outstanding Young Women of America as chosen by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
