Aug. 21, 1942

Bertha Liebig, 4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Liebig of Galt, suffered a double fracture of the left forearm last Saturday. The child was swinging from a gate and lost her hold, falling to the ground. Dr. V.E. Greer was called and the injured child was taken to a Lodi hospital where he set the fracture.

Born – To Mr. and Mrs. Od Langston of Galt, on Aug. 1, 1942, in a Lodi hospital, a son, weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces. He has been named Richard Darrel.

Aug. 22, 1952

Petitions needing at least 500 signatures of persons favoring establishment of the Galt Irrigation District were circulated Monday night at a meeting in the Herald schoolhouse. Those who have the petitions are A.C. North, Eugene Kenefick, Eric Spiess, Charles Bellie, Eb Bottimore, Frieda Kenefick, Clarence Hauschildt, E.E. Monseth, George Harbinson and John Shellenbarger.

Sale of the Galt Department Store at Fourth and C streets was announced this week by Mr. and Mrs. Art Hansen, who have owned and operated the store for the past five years. Purchaser is C.L. LaFollette, owner of the Elk Grove Department Store.

Aug. 23, 1962

Interesting residents of Galt since April 1961 are Mr. and Mrs. Tony Gora who purchased the property on the corner of McKenzie Road and Jackson Highway formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Taylor. The Goras came to this community from Hawaii. Tony, their 19-year-old son, attends San Francisco City College where he is taking up the study of hotel and restaurant management.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pulcifer of Arno Road had a baby son on Tuesday, Aug. 14. He weighed 7½ pounds and is named Charles Edwin.

Aug. 24, 1972

Rochelle Jacobson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Jacobson of Galt, the first girl to ever become a soapbox derby champion in California, will be racing for national honors on Aug. 26 in the 35th annual All-American Soap Box Derby at Akron, Ohio.

A total of 355 Future Farmers of America from all over California will be exhibiting nearly 1,600 animals at the State Fair FFA show Sept. 1-5. Galt entrants include Bill Daley, Bradley Dewitt, John Kessler, Walter Kessler, Sharon McAnlis, Alfred Nicolini, Anthony Nicolini, Margaret Pennington, Ed Pullen, Mary van Warmerdam, Rich Zimmerman.

Aug. 19, 1982

Official conditioning programs for Galt High School athletes started Monday with footballers and volleyballers leading the way into the 1982 fall athletic season. Football and volleyball players began a one-week session of conditioning before actual preseason practices begin. Tennis and soccer start next Thursday.

John B. Williams, editor of The Galt Herald, will be leaving the newspaper, as he has accepted a sports writing position at the Turlock Daily Journal. He will turn his editorship over to Hazel Schlotthauer on Aug. 26. Williams was instrumental in redesigning the masthead and front page and added color to the paper.
