Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gudel have received a letter from their son Robert who is stationed in Honolulu. At the time of writing, Dec. 10, 1941, Robert was in good health. The same holds true for Mr. Leo Boyd, also of the Navy, in the Philippines as revealed in a letter received here by his mother, Mrs. Boyd.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Erich of Thornton, an 8-pound baby daughter. She is the first child of the Erichs … Born to Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Housken of Thornton a son weighing 5 pounds 14½ ounces, Friday, Dec. 26. The child has been named George Edward.

Jan. 4, 1952

Sam W. Kellett, secretary-manager of the Galt Fair for the past two years, announced last Friday his resignation from the post effective immediately.

Two Galt youths enlisted in the U.S. Navy during December. They were Raymond L. Keim and Dare L. Mund.

Miss Eugenia Puccinelli is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Puccinelli in Los Angeles.

Jan. 4, 1962

The proposed Folsom South Canal, which would carry water to Elk Grove and Galt, moved one step nearer reality when the Kennedy administration approved plans for the project, paving the way for action by Congress early in the current year’s session.

A Christmas Day gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Spaans of Galt provided the setting for the announcement of the engagement of Sharon Fernandez to James W. Spaans. Sharon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fernandez. Both she and Jim graduated from Galt High School in 1960.

Jan. 6, 1972

The possibility of cable television for Galt residents was brought up at the regular meeting of the Galt City Council Tuesday night.

Susan Kay McAnlis of Galt exchanged wedding vows with Rexford David Olson of Galt at a double ring ceremony Dec. 23 in the United Methodist Church in Sparks. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David McAnlis of Arno Road and he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Olson. Both are graduates of Galt High School.

Quick response by the family, neighbors and the Herald Fire Department stopped a blaze in the Huisman family’s barn Dec. 26. Ed Huisman used a fire hose, and Buzz McEnerney brought in a Herald fire truck, before the Herald Fire Department arrived. Loss was some damage to the barn and hay.

Jan. 7, 1982

For those who grow weary of dialing a telephone, relief is on the way. Touch-Tone dialing, where you merely press buttons to complete a telephone call, is coming to the Galt area. According to Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company representatives in Lodi, the new service became available for 745, 727, 794, 763 and 772 exchanges after Jan. 2.

Top instrumentalists from throughout San Joaquin County have been selected to the 1982 High School Honor Band. Galt students participating are: Michelle Farley, playing the oboe; Jean Herron and Maria Rivera, clarinet; Brian Henry, cornet/trumpet; and John Boger, trombone.
