The closing exercises of the Colony school were held last Thursday night. The graduates are: Misses Barbara Jenkins and Gwendolyn Dentor, Carol and Roy Umland, and Howard Jernigan. Mr. Herman Sturmer presented the diplomas.

Word received by Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Williams reveals that their son Harold has been promoted to the rank of Corporal and is stationed at San Luis Obispo.

Mr. Harold Hobday of Burbank is spending a two-week vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hobday of Arno. He has been employed, since graduation from Galt High School, as draughtsman at Lockheed.

Mr. and Mrs. Oran Pratton of Galt are the parents of a son, Kenneth Vern, born June 8 at Lodi Memorial Hospital. He arrived at 1:40 a.m. and weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces.

A birthday party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Gerling in honor of their son Terry who celebrated his 8th birthday. Those attending were Chris, Bobby and Alan Johnson, Anna Gerling, Margaret, Alice and Susan Gerling, Carl and Lenae Gross, Jeanne Johnson, Janice Baumann, Janice Cambra, Jo Ann Cambra, Kenny Gross, Joey Stamp, Dennis and Billy Harmer and Terry.

The Valley Oak Grange Hall was the scene for a baby shower Saturday night for Mrs. Earldean Flannery of Galt. Mmes. Norman Robson and Clarence Sessions hosted the affair.

June 15, 1972

A benefit play day for Galt’s Mike Shinn at the W. Van Kirk ranch turned out to be “fun and profitable,” reported chairman Wanda Tripp. The event was sponsored by the Herald Clay Community Club on June 4 to raise money for Mike. The 21-year-old Mike was paralyzed in an auto accident last fall. His condition has improved since then, and he hopes to return to school.

The Herald 4-H swine club made a clean sweep in swine showmanship at the Sacramento County Fair. Brian Bottimore won the novice showmanship, Rick Green took the junior showmanship, and Geoff Kenefick captured the senior showmanship.

June 10, 1982

Valedictorian Karen Huisman will lead 160 Galt High School seniors through graduation ceremonies Friday evening at the Galt High football stadium. “Step By Step, But Always Forward” is the theme for the 1982 Galt High class, which John Lindsey represents as salutatorian.

What was to be a luncheon at the Golden Acorn on May 30 turned out to be a surprise 81st birthday party for Bessie Jones. On hand were son Emery Jones Jr. of Arizona, daughter Patricia Allman of Oklahoma and cousin Bill Smith of Sacramento. This is the first time the family has been together since 1968.
