Liberty School closed for the summer last Friday. Graduates, who will receive their diplomas at exercises to be held at Lodi High School, are: Hannah Keller, Wayne Miller, Ellsworth Miller, Phillip Chinn and Walter Urben.

June 5, 1949

At this week’s City Council meeting, a letter from Thomas P. Skinner was read in which he tendered his resignation from the Galt Police force. The council accepted the resignation and expressed sincere thanks to Mr. Skinner for his services.

Councilman Ray Ost took the opportunity of Tuesday night’s meeting to offer his resignation from City Council due to press of business.

June 4, 1959

Ben Salas, chairman of the Galt Community Festival, was named to the Sacramento County Fair board this week by Governor Edmund Brown. The announcement of the local mortician raised hopes in this area that Galt may eventually have the fair returned here.

June 5, 1969

Lt. Governor Ed Reinecke will be the featured speaker and highlight the “Old Fashioned” 4th of July celebration planned for the Galt area.

The Galt Police Department reported that Monday night, June 2, the Galt Pharmacy on Fourth Street, was held up and robbed by an armed bandit. A small amount of cash and some drugs were taken by the robber. Ray Arlin, owner of the pharmacy, and two clerks were in the store at the time of the robbery.

June 7, 1979

On Saturday, Dorothy Pearson was honored at a retirement dinner held in Sacramento. Dorothy is retiring as secretary to the superintendent of the Galt Joint Union School District. She has been employed by the district for the past 29 years and has watched the district grow from one school to three schools and a preschool.

June 7, 1989

Galt’s City Council approved an agreement with a private developer and the Galt Joint Union School District that will bring the city a shopping center and a new middle school. The approval of the agreement comes six months after the city council approved the concept of the project.

Shirley Uhrich and Norman Carpenter were married recently. The bride is the daughter of Edith Uhrich of Galt and the late Donal Uhrich. The groom’s parents are Harold and Helen Carpenter of Clovis.
