The 1952 graduating class of Galt High School numbers 62 students, the largest in history … Galt Elementary School will graduate 83 youngsters.

A new Chevrolet sedan will be purchased immediately by the city for use by Chief of Police W.E. Froelich, it was announced Tuesday night at a regular meeting of the city council. It is being purchased through Galt Motors.

Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hayenga are Mrs. Neil MacPherson and Mrs. Olive Cook of Galt, Canada. Mrs. MacPherson is Mrs. Hayenga’s cousin.

The Valley Pharmacy in the Galt Stop & Shop Center will be holding its grand opening Friday and Saturday of this week, Lee Sing, owner, announced.

Toni Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Olson of Galt and alternate winner of Area 5 of the California Odd Fellows and Rebekahs UN Pilgrimage Tour, plans to leave for the tour Wednesday, June 13. The trip will take four weeks and she will visit the southern states, Washington, D.C., New York and UN meetings, northeast states, Canada and the Grand Canyon.

Four local elementary students have won scholarships to the Pacific Music Camp this summer. From Galt the winners are Donna Hoffman and Gordon Yenokida, and from Arcohe it’s Sandra Schlotthauer and Mary Lou Hobday.

June 1, 1972

The Silver Bear award, highest award to be given to an adult Scouter, was bestowed upon Larry Schultz, Explorer Post 60 advisor at the District Scout awards dinner May 25.

The preliminary budget for the Galt Fire Department for 1972-73 is $109,000, an increase of $4,000 over last year’s budget.

May 27, 1982

A retirement party feting Mmes. Elvera Petrell and Jennie Ford was held at the Galt Methodist Church social hall on May 21. Hosts for the party were the faculty of Fairsite School. Mrs. Petrell has taught 20 years (eight in first grade and 12 in second grade). Mrs. Ford has completed 22 years of teaching (in Galt, one year in fourth grade at Fairsite and 15 in second grade).

Galt High School sophomore John Gonzalez was rewarded for his season-long assault on the track record books as he was named the winner of the Outstanding Achievement trophy for track and field athletes, as well as most valuable frosh-soph player, on Tuesday night at the spring sports banquet.
