The Kiwanis Club of Galt recently awarded the Galt Teen Center a check for $1,000 to assist during the center’s “soft” opening. The donation should enable the Galt Teen Center to better provide for the needs of the youth it serves. On hand for the presentation were Kiwanis Club of Galt President Liz Haglund and Board Member Dana Edlund along with Galt Teen Center Publicity Director Cat Wilson, Volunteer Director Laura Baker and Program Director Sarah McFayden. In addition, special guest Vishal Mishra from Assemblyman Jim Cooper’s office was present.

“We had a fireworks booth this past summer and the people of Galt supported us. In turn, we want to recognize the Galt Teen Center and all the work they have done. Our focus in Kiwanis is on the children of our area, and we want the Galt Teen Center to be successful,” Haglund said. “We want to support their endeavors and we look forward to possible future collaborations with the center.”

Annette Kunze, Galt Teen Center president, shared that the center has both long-range goals, including a half-court and outdoor space, as well as immediate objectives such as opening two days a week.

The Galt Teen Center opened Tuesday, Aug. 10. They welcome anyone between 13 and 18 years of age on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Find more information at www.galtteencenter.org.

Baker stated, “We are so excited to welcome our teens! Thank you to Kiwanis and everyone in the community who has rallied behind us and this project.”
