Archives 1.jpg

When Maude Quiggle passed away in 1975, she was the oldest officer in the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Having been a deputy constable in the Herald area between 1920 and 1940, Sacramento County Sheriff Duane Lowe made Quiggle an honorary deputy. The lifelong Herald resident was the daughter of Herald pioneer Volaski “Lac” Quiggle. It was said that Bunty Quiggle could ride a horse, shoot a gun and drive a car as well as any man. She also wrote a weekly column for The Galt Herald.
