Close friends and family, and local police personnel gathered Jan. 15 to honor Galt fallen police officer Kevin Tonn, marking the eighth anniversary of the local hero’s death.

An honor guard was assembled near the scene where Tonn was shot and killed by a burglary suspect. A moment of silence was offered at 11:30 a.m., the moment Tonn suffered the fatal shot.

Soon after, the ensemble traveled to the Kevin Tonn Memorial, located by Galt City Hall on the corner of Civic Drive and C Street.

The honor guard then placed a ceremonial wreath at the memorial.

Tonn’s K-9 partner Yaro attended the ceremony.

City officials chose to keep the ceremony mostly private due to COVID-19 restrictions.
