A Galt man was killed in an early-morning crash on Saturday near Simmerhorn Road, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP).
At about 6:19 a.m., CHP received a report of a crash on Highway 99 near Simmerhorn, the agency said in a release on May 15. CHP responded to the scene at 6:37 a.m.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined that the driver of a Volkswagen was traveling northbound on SR-99 at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, the driver veered to the right, traveled off the roadway, crashing into a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn,” CHP reported.
The driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, died in the crash. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified him as 31-year-old Pierre Holland. The CHP release gave Galt as his city of residence.
The northbound Simmerhorn onramp was closed from 6:19 a.m. to 9:20 a.m.
