The Galt Joint Union Elementary School District (GJUESD) doesn’t close down when school lets out. This Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Vernon E. Greer Elementary, they are highlighting all the after school activities at a celebration of Lights on After School.
Extended Learning Supervisor Jennifer Collier encourages students and families to come out and join the fun.
“We’ll be serving a hot dog dinner and have lots of fun activities,” Collier said. “Everyone should attend, parents and kids, to see the fun learning opportunities kids are having after school. This event also encourages kids to participate and be involved in their community.”
There are many activities planned for students after school hours. This celebration is to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things – dance, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do and poetry – and discover new skills.
At 5 p.m., the district will showcase the Bright Futures Learning Center’s (BFLCs), After School Education and Safety (ASES), Galt Youth Commission, and more. Lawn games, sidewalk chalk and other activities are on the agenda.
Volunteers include CSD Fire Department, Galt Grandma and Grandpa Cops, and Galt Youth Commissioners. Lead coordinators are Janet Munoz, ASES Coordinator at Greer; Celeste Muniz, ASES Coordinator at Valley Oaks; Abby Jones, ASES Coordinator at McCaffrey and Jennifer Collier, Extended Learning Supervisor.
