Galt Joint Union Elementary School District (GJUESD) Board of Trustees met on Dec. 14 through Zoom to install new trustees Casey Raboy and Traci Skinner. Superintendent Karen Schauer administered the oath of office. Outgoing president Grace Malson was recognized for her contributions and leadership.

Trustee Tom Silva was installed as president, Wes Cagle as vice president, Skinner as clerk and Malson as representative.

Schauer, Donna Whitlock, Director of Educational Services, and Lois Yount, Director of Business Services, reported on efforts of reopening schools. Yount shared the district’s new Safety Video developed by the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium and the district’s Expanded Learning Supervisor Jennifer Collier. The video has been posted on the district’s website and on its social media pages.

Reopening plans continue to be developed with a tentative date of Jan. 19, 2021. Current plans are for a blended in-person instructional model once the county returns to Red Tier 2 and remains there for two weeks.

Families that confirm the request for distance learning will be provided a complete Galt Learning Equity & Excellence Program for home instruction.

On Dec. 7, the district began free testing for its employees to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Prior to the start of winter break, the district sent out the morning/afternoon blended learning schedules to families.

Yount reported that a Facility Hardship Application came through with $2,103,477 for modernization of Greer Elementary School, which is planned to begin next summer.
