Daniel Philip Cordero, 32, of Galt was arrested Thursday morning, March 11 in his motel room on the 4300 block of Madison Avenue in Sacramento County.
At 7:19 a.m. on Thursday, a security officer from the motel contacted the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center stating that when he looked into the window of a room that should be vacant, he saw weapons, high capacity magazines and a silencer laying on the bed.
Deputies arrived at the motel and found Cordero, who was known to law enforcement, inside the room.
Initially Cordero was uncooperative and refused to exit the room.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail (SED) and Critical Incident Negotiation Team (CINT) arrived to assist patrol deputies in evacuating adjacent rooms and gaining peaceful compliance. After a two and a half hour standoff, negotiators were able to convince Cordero, who was the only occupant, to walk out of the room where deputies detained him without incident.
After obtaining a search warrant, detectives searched the room and vehicle belonging to Cordero.
The search revealed an AR15 Rifle that had been modified to be considered an assault rifle under California Penal Code, a semiautomatic handgun, ammunition, extended ammunition magazines, silencer and ballistic safety equipment. All of the items seized are being held as evidence in the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Property Warehouse.
Cordero was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony weapons charges, including felon in possession of a firearm. Cordero is being held on a $50,000 bail and is due in court on March 29.
At this time, no further suspects are outstanding.
This is not Cordero’s first run-in with the law. Galt police were called to a home in Galt in July 2014 where Cordero had barricaded himself, along with his girlfriend, in a home on Moose Creek Way.
Elk Grove-Galt SWAT team was dispatched and, just before entering the residence, Cordero surrendered to police.
Both Cordero and his girlfriend were arrested during the incident.
Police recovered a handgun and ammunition at the residence.
