Alejandro Reyes-Rios, 24, from Stockton and Virginia Maria Montanez, 24, from Galt are being held at the Sacramento County jail for attempted homicide of a Galt police officer.

A Galt police officer was the target of an attempted homicide while patrolling an eastside neighborhood in the early hours Saturday morning, Oct. 23.

The officer was stopped near the northeast dead end area of Crystal Way when the officer witnessed an eastbound vehicle stop on Boessow Road, just east of Crystal Way.

The vehicle had been involved in a previous DUI incident, of which the driver had been recently released from Galt Police Department custody.

“The officer heard multiple gunshot rounds fired toward his direction and heard the bullets penetrate the ground near his immediate area,” a press release said.

The officer notified dispatch, requesting additional units for assistance.

The suspect vehicle then fled eastbound on Boessow Road and was pursued by Galt police officers. The vehicle was stopped near Cherokee Lane on Boessow where an adult female and an adult male were taken into custody without incident.

The officers on scene located evidence related to the shooting inside of the suspects’ vehicle and on Boessow Road where the suspect vehicle initially stopped at the time of the shooting.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

The suspects have been identified as Alejandro Reyes-Rios, 24, from Stockton, and Virginia Maria Montanez, 24, from Galt.

Both Reyes-Rios and Montanez were booked on multiple felony counts, including attempted murder, assault with a firearm upon a peace officer and conspiracy (two or more persons conspire to commit any crime). Additionally, Montanez was charged with accessory after the fact, a felony.

Neither of the suspects is eligible for bail, and they were due in court yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 26. Results of that hearing were not available as of press time.
