The pandemic has caused many events to be canceled this year. Not wanting to forego celebrating the start of the holiday season by fully canceling the Lighting of the Night Celebration, the city of Galt Parks and Recreation Department decided to shift gears and host a reverse parade, inviting guests to “Jingle Through the Market” in their own vehicles.

Although the “floats” were stationary and unfortunately few, those participating proved to be a holiday delight.

From mountain camp scenes, complete with snow covered pines and campfire, to a recycler’s dream, complete with Oscar the Grouch and Christmas trees made from recycled cans and bottles, each float station was carefully designed by local businesses, city departments, Boy Scout troops, churches and organizations.

Those jingling through the market were met with cheery Christmas lights, hearty greetings and festive decorations.

Those opting for red carpet treatment purchased an Elf Express Pass, which allowed them to go to the front of the line, where they received cups of hot chocolate and cookies to enjoy while they traversed the market grounds. Local businesses Café Latte and Spaans Cookie Company provided the tasty treats.

Over 500 vehicles navigated their way through the floats.
