Youth commission

The 2019-20 Galt Youth Commission.

Attention Galt high school students (from both high schools), and eighth graders (who will be freshmen soon): Summeris in the air. What does this mean? Well, it means open spots will be available to join the Galt Youth Commission (GYC).

The Galt Youth Commission is made up of a total of 10 carefully selected high school students, who are given the opportunity to serve our community (terms lasting two years, plus community service hours).

GYC will have five open spots. The Galt Youth Commission not only gives the opportunity of helping out others, but also makes you grow as a person. The adult mentors help guide and support you in your ideas and projects. Unlike a club, the GYC is formalized. It gives you the opportunity to better know the town of Galt; anything is possible in the GYC.

Since I’ve been there, I’ve grown a lot. For those who don’t know me, I’m a painfully shy person and not very comfortable in public situations but, through the GYC, I’ve become more comfortable in public environments (needless to say, I’m still working on that).

Here you can find real friends who have the same passions as you, and since it’s a mix of grade levels, you get advice for future high school years to come. We all learn from each other.

In the Galt Youth Commission, everyone pushes each other to be the best they can. Everyone supports one another when we feel like giving up.

I am really glad that I joined the Galt Youth Commission and had the privilege to see what real passion looks like. You don’t have to be a great public speaker or a complete extrovert to join; all that matters is the passion and the desire to help others. The rest will follow.

The Galt Youth Commission is not only that, a “commission”, it’s also a family. You laugh together, fall and get up as one. You form beautiful memories of each other.

The Galt Youth Commission is an amazing experience for those willing to help. So don’t miss the opportunity of a lifetime and sign up to join.

Applications are out and can be found and turned in at the City Clerk’s office, with the deadline being June 1 at 5:30 p.m. Emailing the application is also accepted. Check out our Youtube Channel, as well, for more information.
