During the Galt Joint Union High School District (GJUHSD) board meeting on May 12, the board thanked teachers retiring this year.

With a combined total of 100 years of experience, educators Carlina Stewart, Phillip Petersen, Pamela Mariani, Sibba Alexanders and Bridget Berlin were honored, and their careers recounted.

Student board representatives Juanita Pamplona-Barron (Estrellita High School), Larissa Reyes (Liberty Ranch High School) and Joseph Torrez (Galt High School) were recognized for their service to their schools for the 2021-22 school year. They worked as the voice for their respective student bodies at board meetings, ensuring their perspective was heard and considered.

Further board business included a declaration of need for fully qualified educators, which the district is required to submit to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing on an annual basis. The declaration estimates how many emergency permits the district may request in a school year. The board also considered an item to add November’s trustee elections to the Sacramento and San Joaquin county ballots. The trustees passed both of these items unanimously.

Additionally, the Galt Community of Character Coalition Honesty award was presented to Tracie Cross, who has worked in job development with Galt high schoolers since 2008. The Galt Rotary Club nominated Cross to receive the award. Her dependability, morality and attention to detail were highlighted ahead of presentation of the 2022 Honesty Award.

The next GJUHSD board meeting will take place June 9.
